Dear readers,
Welcome to our new RES-DHC newsletter!
This newsletter emerged from our Horizon 2020 project “RES-DHC – Renewable Energy Sources for District Heating and Cooling” which we started in September 2020. As project partners, we joined in teams of heat suppliers, local authorities, consultants and institutes, aiming at finding and demonstrating the best solutions for increasing the RES share in the DHC systems in our six RES-DHC model regions.
With our newsletter we would like to share our project findings and outcomes with you regularly and to come in contact with you. Please make sure that you already became a subscriber of our newsletter here and enjoy reading the first news about the project start in our RES-DHC regions.

Municipal heat planning – a booster for district heating?
In the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg – one of the RES-DHC model regions – the legislator introduced a compulsory municipal heat planning for the 103 biggest cities. For the first time, cities have to develop their vision for a CO2-neutral heat supply in the year 2050. The Danish example was successfully adopted to German boundary conditions and a boost of district heating systems is expected. Read more...

New support scheme for decarbonising district heating in Poland
Poland – as one of the implementing countries of the RES-DHC project – has Europe’s second largest district heating market. Currently, there are around 400 district heating networks in Poland, supplying heat to approximately 16.5 million residents. 80 % of the network is still powered using hard coal. The second edition of the “Ciepłownictwo Powiatowe” (‘district heat’) programme was recently launched to speed up the decarbonisation of district heating in Poland. Read more...
